Gone Like The Wind

Gone Like The Wind

She sits under the redbud tree

that was their special place.

Tears fall on the pages as

she answers his last letter to her,

remembers their last day spent here.

Her heart is aching now

because she is left alone, but

she remembers how much

he loves her and all those

special moments they spent alone.

Hearing the loud roar of

nearby cannon fire, she

bows her head in prayer for

the war to end soon, for

his safe return to her loving arms.

She looks at their stately home,

ancient trees, formal gardens,

all this and a life of grace could

soon be gone like the wind.

Her prayer is that his life be spared.
